Wingspan Quarterly Masthead
Wingspan Quarterly is a literary magazine devoted to the idea that great writing is intended to be read and enjoyed. It provides a space for new and established writers to spread their wings and for readers to explore exciting works of prose and poetry.
While Wingspan Quarterly is especially interested in receiving submissions dealing with themes of flight, travel, place, and the natural world, it welcomes writing in a nearly unlimited range of subjects and styles. Genre fiction, including science fiction, horror, Western, etc., can find a home at Wingspan Quarterly alongside creative nonfiction, experimental writing, and a wide variety of poetry.
It is printed four times a year, as an online edition at this site and as a print edition available for purchase through Lulu.com. The online edition will include all work accepted for publication, as well as biographical information about the authors. The print edition is an attractive and unique perfect-bound volume ideal for gift-giving, displaying on a coffee table, or holding that place of honor on the bookshelf.
Wingspan Quarterly has big dreams for its future, including a subscription service, compensation for authors, and local printing. Your support - whether through purchasing a print edition, linking to our site, making a donation, or submitting your work - brings us closer each day to achieving those dreams.

Editor
Founder, editor, and print-edition designer Kate H. Baker has realized a long-cherished dream through the creation of Wingspan Quarterly. While pursuing undergraduate studies in English, Kate became frustrated with the attitude of literary elitism she encountered among her professors and peers. Surrounded by an overwhelming scorn for pieces written with readers in mind, Kate began to rebel. What, she wondered, is the point of writing if not to communicate with readers? What's so wrong with a story or a poem that makes you laugh, or cry, or lie awake at night wishing you had a nightlight?
After escaping from the university with her literary ideals intact, Kate began plotting her path towards legitimizing the sort of writing she loved and appreciated. Finally, in December of 2005, she opened submissions for Wingspan Quarterly. The inaugural issue was released in March of 2006.
Kate has worn several hats in the past few years, including substitute teacher, gubernatorial campaign staffer, marching band assistant, and academic advisor. She is currently in the process of earning her MA in education and wishes she had more time to make books, camp, go ballooning, and hang out with her family.
Online Designer
Wingspan Quarterly's website was designed and created by Ryan C. Baker, the other half of the dynamic and usually over-extended Baker team. His web design work can currently be seen on the sites for the Boise State University Blue Thunder Marching Band and the Iota Kappa chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi; he has also done web design for a number of other organizations and individuals, and is currently in the process of developing a site for the Boise State University College Democrats.
Ryan is a scholar of political science and works as the boiler room manager for a gubernatorial campaign when not supervising a technical support department for a local internet service provider.
