The people that turned out for the January meeting were treated to a slide show about propagating dahlias from cuttings, and a special treat, the 2001 Ferncliff Gardens video catalog. Hopefully everyone learned something they could use! It was wonderful to see you again and to meet the new attendees.

Next SWIDS Meeting The Next meeting will be at the Boise Public Library on February 21st at 7:00 pm in the Marion Bingham Room. We will be presenting the ADS slide presentation entitled "2002 New Introductions". This is a great way to see what a lot of this years new dahlias look like. Please mark your calendars!

March SWIDS Meeting The March meeting will be at the Boise Public Library on March 21st at 6:45 pm in the Marion Bingham Room. Cameron Parsley will be doing a hands on demonstration of how he propagates dahlias from cuttings. Please plan on attending!

SWIDS, Jr The Southwest Idaho Junior Dahlia Society meetings will begin with a Start the Season party at 2pm on April 21st. Watch for the location and more details to come.

The SW Idaho Dahlia Society web site has been given a facelift and will be kept more current than the old one. Updates planned for the near future are the addition of the tuber sale info, more pictures, and more links. Please check it out when you get a chance! http://home.rmci.net/parsley/

We have been talking with several commercial dahlia growers about sending us tubers for our tuber sales and it looks like we could be getting some much-needed additions to the varieties we currently have. Stay tuned for more updates, as April gets closer.

Tuber Sale dates Two dates have been set for our tuber sales; they are May 4th at the Golden Garden club plant sale and May 11th at Heritage Park in Eagle.

Calendar The following is a tentative schedule of topics for the following months meetings, but it is subject to change.

April - Tuber sale preparation and How to plant dahlias

May - Review tuber sale and display garden planning

June - Topping, How to and why

July - Disbudding, How to and why

August - Staging blooms for a show and how to enter flowersin the Western Idaho State fair, Garden Tour

September - 4th Annual SW Idaho Dahlia Society show

Other topics that have been suggested are judging, arranging, and pest control.

2002 SWIDS projects Some of the projects we have lined up for this year include:

· Furnishing the Idaho Botanical Garden with an assortment of dahlias

· We will be planting and maintaining a flower bed in Ann Morrison park near the fountain - a big thank you to Boise parks & recreation for this opportunity

Membership Promotion To stimulate interest &ldots; and maybe to save tubers from an unfortunate demise &ldots; SWIDS is offering membership in the club in trade for your tubers! As you know, our tuber sale is the primary fundraiser for SWIDS activities. Turn some or all of your identified tubers over to SWIDS (no later than the April meeting) and receive a year's membership.
