Basic Five Results by Year

2000

1999

Purpose:  Originally, this run/walk was started to raise money for the Track and Field Club.  Now it is associated with the YMCA.

History:  The Basic Five was first named the Basic 4 miler and was organized and and administered by the Treasure Valley Dieticians.  The name changes was brought about by the change in the food pyramid from four food groups to five food groups.  The National Nutritionists promote the food pyramid, as the food we should eat to promote a good healthy diet.  The month of March is National Nutrition month and the dieticians started this race to promote proper nutrition in the Treasure Valley.
The Boise Family YMCA got involved in this race due to one of our Track Club parents, who was a Treasure Valley dietician.  She requested our club's help and donated some funds to the club for their help.
