In loving memory of William Makey
Great-grandfather, grandfather, father, husband and friend

A gentle giant at 6 feet tall
A soft lap, arms that protected us all
He would scoop me up and hold me tight
My grandfather, a grand Irish knight

Bath time was always such a treat
Running to Grandpa with wrinkled wet feet
He’d pick me up in an afghan wrap
Telling me stories before my nightlong nap

His beautiful voice boomed at Saturday evening mass
How I longed to sing with him at each week’s pass
Then home to Lawrence Welk, dancing on his feet
This I would look forward to each and every week

Life’s morals and lessons, such a patient teach
His stories were tools to educate, goals for us each
Trips to the Pine Room for pool and a glass of 7up
Olsen’s ice cream twist, Grandpa really spoiled us

Baking oatmeal raisin cookies, back in the day
Lunches of sausage, crackers & cheese, when Grams was away
The smell of his pipe smoke filling the air
Drives out to Springbrook park to look for deer

Cribbage and euchre, more card games along the way
These are the moments that I remember today
I thank you all for joining our family to share
Grandpa Makey, thank you for your life, and just being there
