Joy Steiner travels throughout the nation telling stories to audiences of all ages.  A recipient of the National Storytelling Network Leadership Award, Joy believes that stories build empathy and allow us to walk in the shoes of another.  Joy has produced three recordings of original stories including the Parentıs Choice Award winner, Four Funny Folktales for Little Folk.  Her latest CD, Across a Surging Sea, is a collection of stories and songs intended to help young adults hold on to their dreams and unique gifts while growing up in a difficult society.

Joy performs lively, slightly mischievous storytelling concerts full of humor and music.  With spunky wit and an ever changing array of voices and facial expressions, Joy tells world folktales and original stories about the courage and tenacity of everyday people.  These are the heroes for our time.  Joy believes that each one of us can make a difference.  Her storytelling concerts are a feast for the imagination blending vivid imagery, poetry, and the lilt of her clay Isoka flute into the mix of folktales and personal anecdotes.

Joy provides residencies and workshops in the art of storytelling, using family stories to build stronger communities, and using the arts as a means to engage the many languages of children as part of an Arts Infused Curriculum.  Joy has a bachelor's degree in music education and a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Special Education Curriculum and Instruction.   She has taught at the preschool, elementary, and college levels.  Her workshops and residencies use movement, imagination, and sound to inspire learning.  She encourages children and adults to create stories, tell them, and actively listen to one another.  No matter what the age, Joy believes that stories are a powerful way to bring people together.
