Amsterdam in the far distant left across the Rhine amd the Roozengracht is a tributary that runs into the Rhine where Hendrickje and Titus set up their art gallery after Rembrandt's bankruptcy. Their rent on the house which was a duplex, was 125 guilders per year. |
Hendrickje walking back to the house after bringing Rembrandt his dinner whilst he is in the midst of painting this lovely painting. Cornelia and Titus sitting on the front porch waiting for mom to return. |
Sun setting over the Roozengracht, leaving Rembrandt little time to finish, though candles in his hat brim will help ill- uminate his final brushstrokes for the evening. |
Where the Roozengracht flows into the Rhine with Amsterdam in the distance. As you can see, Amsterdam was within walking distance. His creditors would walk over to try and recover some of their monies owed in paintings. Therefore Rembrandt would not sign his true name to anything!! He would use his trick signatures that only the true art connosiour would be able to make out. This Painting is signed T. Levy. Attributed date: 1661-63 by Bob Miller. |
